Good evening, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,

Monday, February 20th is Presidents' Day, and students will not come to school. I hope that our Bobcats enjoy the day! Tuesday, February 21st will be a B day.

We had a phenomenal week last week! We had ice cream on Monday to celebrate LCPS 212 day, TEAM TIME (an energetic, community-building experience) and guest speaker Trooper Grady who spoke about the Buffalo Soldiers on Tuesday, and the asynchronous day on Wednesday where many of our Bobcats volunteered for community service projects. We celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Day on Friday, and it was Virginia Kindness Week! We ended the week with an Olweus lesson. It is amazing to think about how powerful simple acts of kindness can be!

This week, Captain Howard L. Baugh will be talking with seventh grade students about the Tuskegee Airmen! Also, sixth grade students will attend a theater performance! As you know, the Louisa Rotary Club is a tremendous supporter of TeamLCPS, and they have generously funded Barter Theatre performances over the years. This year, we are excited for sixth graders to have the opportunity to attend a Barter Theatre show, My Imaginary Pirate. We will end this week with club meetings on Friday!

Outdoor track tryouts will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 21st and 22nd.
A current VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2022, is required for all tryout events. Please see our LCMS athletics website for more information.

Family Life letters were given to students in Health/PE classes and should be returned by Friday, February 24th. If you have any questions, please contact your child's Health/PE teacher.

Black History Month Spirit Week will be February 21st - 24th:
February 21st: Marvel/DC Tuesday
Wear your favorite Marvel/DC character attire in honor of past/present black actors (such as Chadwick Boseman - Black Panther)

February 22nd: Team/Hat Wednesday
Wear a jersey of your favorite black athlete, or athlete of your choice
(Students may purchase a wristband in the main office hallway to wear a hat for $1)

February 23rd: HBCU/College Day Thursday
Wear HBCU apparel or apparel from your favorite college/university

February 24th: Hip Hop Friday
Dress in attire from the '90s

Wednesday, March 8th will be an Asynchronous Learning Day, and Bobcat students and staff will be participating in a community service activity. We will be working together to clean up roads within Louisa County. Please complete the permission form for your child to participate, and return the form to the LCMS Main Office no later than Tuesday, February 28th. This is an excellent opportunity for students to be involved in a service project that benefits our community, and I hope that you will consider having your child participate!

At LCMS, we are a proud Heart-Partner school with the American Heart Association! Every year, we focus on the importance of being KIND to our HEARTS, and others. Please help your student join our school team by downloading the American Heart Challenge app, or go to www.heart.org/AHC. When signing up, please use a parent or guardian’s email (not your student’s school-provided email address). Students who complete all of the 8 steps on their Finn’s Mission HEART gamecard, will be recognized at school as one of our Heart Heroes & will receive a special limited edition BEANIE cap! Students who raise at least $50 in life-saving donations for the mission of American Heart Association, will receive a special t-shirt, celebrating the organization helping hearts, since 1924! If you have any questions, please contact your child's Health/PE teacher.

Looking ahead, the LCMS Library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair Monday through Friday, March 6th-10th. Students will be able to visit the fair with their English teachers on their scheduled day. The fair will also be open in the morning at 7:45 and during lunch for students who have money to make a purchase but not simply browse. The fair will be open during the Asynchronous Learning Day on Wednesday, March 8th to students and their families from 11 am to 3 pm. Please feel free to stop in and pick up some amazing new books to read!

Mark your calendars for a fun-filled evening of basketball at LCHS on Saturday, March 11th! Watch our TeamLCPS staff play against the Harlem Wizards! Who will represent LCMS? Stay tuned! Tickets are on sale now: https://pretix.eu/harlemwizards/mineralva03-11-23-06-00pm/

Continuing to look ahead, we will have a “Pot of Gold” dance on Friday, March 17th after school until 5:30. On Friday, April 21st, we will have a dance from 6:00 to 8:30 for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students as a way of welcoming our future Bobcats!

The 8th Grade Formal will take place on Saturday, May 13th from 7:00 to 9:30. These are all great opportunities for middle school memories to be made!

Louisa County Parks, Recreation & Tourism is hosting Project Glitz and Glam as a collection drive and giveaway to help local girls find the dress of their dreams! Donations are being accepted at several locations through March 6th, and the event will take place on Saturday, March 11th. They are accepting donations of prom dresses, formal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, formal shoes, jewelry, handbags, and sealed makeup. Girls will be able to preregister for a timeslot for Saturday, March 11th to pick out their 8th grade formal attire for FREE! Registration will open on February 17th. Contact Jennifer Stone at LCPRT with any questions: 540-967-4422 or [email protected].

We have another great week ahead! If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please call our office at (540) 894-5457.
