Bobcat Nation, our team here at LCMS hopes you are continuing to have a safe and enjoyable summer! Our first day of school on August 11th is quickly approaching, and we cannot wait to see you all! As we prepare for August 11th, we wanted to remind you of new immunization standards that we first made you aware of back on June 23rd.

The Virginia General Assembly recently passed House Bill 1090, which amended the minimum vaccination requirements for attendance at public schools in Virginia. This bill went into effect on July 1. As always, we want you to be as informed as possible so your student is prepared for the upcoming school year.

Accordingly, the following immunization requirements are now in place for the upcoming school year for rising 7th graders:

  • A booster dose of TDAP vaccine (as of July 1, 2019).

  • Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY). The first dose shall be administered prior to entry to the seventh grade at 11 years or older.

  • Two doses of properly spaced human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines for males and females. The first dose shall be administered before the child enters the seventh grade. (A parent or guardian has the right to decide if a child receives the HPV vaccine).

To be clear, the immunization requirements listed above are required for all rising seventh-grade students for the upcoming school year.

Students may consult with and visit their physician for immunizations, but the Louisa County Health Department (540 Industrial Drive in Louisa) is also offering an immunization clinic for rising 7th graders by appointment only on July 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  The LCHD asks you to please call 540-967-3707 to schedule your appointment.

In addition, the Blue Ridge Health District is currently offering COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone ages 12 and up. To be clear, though, COVID-19 vaccines are optional. To schedule an appointment, call 877-829-4682 (open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or visit

If you have any questions about this information, please contact Dr. Carla Alpern, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, by emailing or call 540-894-5115.

Thank you and have a great day!
