LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,

Monday, March 10th will be an A Day.

Family Life Education Begins This Week
Family Life Education lessons will begin this week in health classes. If you have any questions, please contact your child's Health/PE teacher.

Severe Weather Awareness Week This Week
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service promote Severe Weather Awareness Week to refresh, remind, and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. We will be practicing our emergency procedures for severe weather this week.

Pot of Gold Dance: Friday, March 14th
We will have a Pot of Gold Dance on Friday, March 14th after school until 5:30. Permission forms will be provided for students on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in the cafeteria. Permission forms must be turned in by Thursday, March 13th by 1:20 (end of lunch shifts). Registrations will not be accepted on the day of the dance. Parents/guardians will pick up students from the dance *beginning* at 5:30. (Early pickups are difficult because students are still dancing!) Enter the campus using the Bus Garage Road entrance and proceed to door #2 (the 7th grade entrance) to pick up your child.

Pizza, soda, water, chips, and candy will be available for purchase. All school rules apply at the dance. Students are expected to dance appropriately and dress according to the dress code. Cell phones must remain in backpacks and not be used during the dance. Our Bobcats have had an outstanding time at our dances so far this year, so we are looking forward to another dance!

Bobcat Kindness Closet Needs Donations
Our Bobcat Kindness Closet needs to be restocked! Some examples of items that are needed include girls’ and boys’ deodorant, feminine products, shampoo, toothpaste, floss, and body wash. Donations can be dropped off in the LCMS main office.

There is a link on the LCMS Student Start Page for the Bobcat Kindness Closet. The Kindness Closet was created to help provide our Bobcat families with items to meet their basic needs. If a student could benefit from some of the items listed, please fill out the form indicating the items needed. Clothes, including coats, are available, along with toiletries. We will gather the requested items and deliver them to students in a discreet manner. Students can also share their needs with their grade level school counselor.

Youth Art Month

The annual Student Art Show at the Louisa County Public Library is taking place during the month of March! Stop by to see some of our Bobcats’ artwork on display!

Attending After School Athletic Events
The spring sports season is underway! Our teams are poised to have a great season! Be reminded that on days when we have home athletics events, students need to leave school as usual and return to school with an adult to attend the event. Students are not able to stay on the school campus without prearranged staff supervision. Also, students may not go to the Louisa County library and then return for an event; the library does not have structures in place to supervise our young Bobcat spectators. We look forward to cheering on our athletes this season!

Volunteers Needed for Reality Store: Friday, April 11th
Please review this letter from Jenny Thompson, 4H Youth Development Agent with the Virginia Cooperative Extension. Volunteers are needed for the Reality Store at LCMS on Friday, April 11th. Please complete this Google Form to submit your interest and availability (click here).

Looking Ahead:
Make sure that your calendar is marked: Monday, March 17th will be a regular school day. The end of the third grading period will be on March 21st and report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, March 28th.
Scholastic Book Fair March 24th-28th
The LCMS Library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, March 24th to Friday, March 28th. Students will be able to visit the fair with their Social Studies teachers on their scheduled day. The fair will also be open in the morning at 7:45 and during lunch for students who have money to make a purchase but not simply browse. We hope that Bobcats will pick up some amazing new books to read!

Integrated Reading Writing Assessment for 8th Grade Students
The Standards of Learning (SOL) Reading assessment includes an Integrated Reading Writing (IRW) test item. Our 8th grade students will be taking the IRW assessment on Tuesday, March 25th.

Eighth grade students will read a nonfiction passage online that may be about a history or science topic and then answer four to six questions about what they have read. One question is a writing prompt, or a question that asks students to write about what they have read. Students will complete this online in one session on Tuesday, March 25th.

LCPS Arts Festival: Saturday, March 29th
We hope our Bobcats will join us for the 2025 LCPS Arts Festival on Saturday, March 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Louisa County High School. There will be student artwork on display, musical performances, art-making stations, and more!
