October is Kindness Month
October is Kindness Month, and we are celebrating our newest initiative,
“Kindness: A Decade of Difference!” here at LCPS!
As part of this initiative, we will be spending
this week, October 13th-17th
, focusing on spreading kindness throughout our school division. We will be issuing a
Ten Acts of Kindness Challenge, where students can work together to complete acts of kindness! Students received a printed copy of the challenge on Friday in their homeroom class. Once 10 acts of kindness are completed, students will ask for a signature from a teacher or guardian, cut the bottom portion of the form, and turn it in to the front office for a chance to win a prize from one of our daily #Kindness drawings!
We are so excited to come together as a team to spread kindness!
The week of October 20th-24th, we will be collecting donations for
Kindness for a Cause, and LCMS will be supporting the Louisa Animal Shelter! If you would like to help, we will be collecting monetary donations, blankets and towels (no pillows or pillowcases, please), and dry or wet cat and dog food.
Your generosity will help make a difference for animals in need right here in our community. Let’s show our LCMS kindness and make this decade-long tradition even more meaningful!
Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School
An informational night will be held on Thursday, October 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the LCMS Forum for 8th graders and parents interested in learning more about the Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School. Seventh grade families are welcome to attend to get a jump start for their 8th grade year.
The Blue Ridge Virginia Governor’s School (BRVGS) is an academic year governor’s school that provides a challenging and differentiated program of studies in core academic subjects, emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program utilizes interactive video technology, field trips, and team coaching to create a regional community of learners from the counties of Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison, and Orange. Methods of instruction and learning aided by technology will aim to put the student in control of their learning and education. Please contact Mrs. Floyd, Special Services School Counselor, with any questions:

Patriot’s Pen Writing Contest
We encourage our Bobcats to enter the
Patriot’s Pen Writing Contest. The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Students interested in participating must submit their essay prepared on this year's theme, with a completed
2025-2026 entry form, to their local participating VFW Post. Applications must be turned in by midnight on October 31st.
Looking Ahead:
Scholastic Book Fair: October 20th-24th
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our library from Monday, October 20th to Friday, October 24th! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new books and grow their love of reading. Students will visit the fair with their Social Studies classes on scheduled days. The fair will also be open each morning at 7:45 and during lunch for students who are ready to make purchases. (Please note: Students may browse during class visits, but should bring money if they wish to buy books before school or at lunch.) We hope you will encourage your child to participate and discover some great new reads. Thank you for supporting literacy and our school community!
Next After School Dance: October 24th
We have had great times at our after school dances so far this school year! Our next after school dance will be on Friday, October 24th, and there is an LCHS Varsity home football game that evening as well!
School-Wide Costume Theme on October 31st
Get ready to go bananas, because this year's school-wide costume theme is Minions!
On Friday, October 31st, we're inviting all students and staff to join in the fun by dressing up as their favorite Minion. Whether Bobcats would like to be a classic Kevin, Stuart, or Bob, or simply wear a yellow shirt with denim, we can't wait to see our school transformed into a Minion army!
*If they choose, students may each receive a free Minion Beanie, which they will receive in homeroom class on Thursday, October 30th.
(Students may dress up on Friday, October 31st, as long as dress code guidelines are followed and there are no Halloween masks.)
Once again, there will be no school for students on Monday and Tuesday, October 13th and 14th. We look forward to seeing our Bobcats again on Wednesday! If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please call our office at (540) 894-5457.
