Good evening, families of current LCMS Sixth Grade Bobcats,

Please review the letter below regarding the immunization requirements for rising seventh grade students. Please note that your child will not be able to come to school in August until the immunization documentation is on file at LCMS, so please do not delay. Please plan ahead early and provide the documentation as soon as possible to ensure a seamless transition to seventh grade next year. If you already have the immunization documentation, you can submit it now! Please contact Nurse Joy Smith at 540-894-5457, extension 2040, with any questions.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1090, which amends the minimum vaccination requirements for attendance at a public school in Virginia. The following are the immunization requirements for seventh and twelfth-grade students as of July 2021:

Seventh-grade requirements:
● A booster dose of TDAP vaccine.
● Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). The first dose shall be administered prior to entry to the seventh grade at 11 years or older.
● Two doses of properly spaced human papillomavirus(HPV) vaccines for males and females. The first dose shall be administered before the child enters the seventh grade. (A parent or guardian has the right to decide if a child receives the HPV vaccine.)

Twelfth-grade requirements:
● Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY).One dose shall be administered prior to entry to the twelfth grade at 16 years or older.

If your child will be in seventh or twelfth grade in 2023-2024, please review the requirements above and consult with your child’s physician regarding immunizations. You may also visit the Louisa County Health Department at 540 Industrial Drive in Louisa. Please call 540-967-3703 in advance for an appointment at the health department – immunizations are free of charge.

Documentation of immunizations is necessary and proof must be received before enrollment in school in August 2023. The student will not be allowed to attend school if the student’s immunization record does not include the above requirements. Please fax or drop off immunization records to your child’s school nurse by July 31st, 2023.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school nurse or Dr. Carla Alpern, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, at [email protected] or 540-894-5115.

Sincerely,

Carla Alpern, Ed. D.
Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services
