LCMS Principal Weekly Update for Dec. 31, 2023

LCMS Weekly Update graphicHappy New Year, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. May 2024 be filled with joy, happiness, and learning! I am looking forward to our Bobcats returning to classrooms on Thursday to begin the second semester!

Thursday, January 4th will be an A day. Sixth grade students will begin a new exploratory class in the wheel, and seventh and eighth grade students will begin a new elective unless they are taking a yearlong class. Students can check out their PowerSchool Student Portal to see which class they have next!

Before returning to school on Thursday, I recommend that students set aside some time to clean out backpacks and refresh school supplies such as pencils and paper. I encourage you to check in with your child and ensure they have a clean set of gym clothes and a pair of athletic shoes for their PE class. Also, having a fully charged Chromebook will be a great way to begin the New Year!

Report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, January 5th. Remember that you can view your child’s grades, attendance, and tardies live in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please call the school if you need assistance logging in. As we begin the new semester, parents, I encourage you to discuss high expectations and healthy habits with your child. A good sleep schedule with a regular bedtime, healthy nutrition, and reasonable and responsible phone/device usage are all important parts of growing up.

Administrators will be meeting with students during health classes on Thursday and Friday of this week to discuss the high expectations and responsibilities of our learning community, including making good choices and thinking before speaking and acting, which are all parts of being a good Bobcat citizen.

As we begin the 2024 Spring Semester, we also want to make sure you are aware of a revision to the 2023-2024 LCPS Calendar that concerns an Asynchronous Learning Day that was originally designated for March 6th on the printed calendar that was distributed to families. Calendars should now indicate that the Asynchronous Learning Day is on Tuesday, March 5th, not Wednesday, March 6th. The March 5th date was approved by the Louisa County School Board in February 2023.

The purpose of the revision was due to the fact that 2024 serves as a Presidential Primary Election Year. The date for the Presidential Primary Election is March 5th, 2024. This information is very important for us at Louisa County Public Schools since four of our schools (JES, TES, M-NES, and LCMS) serve as polling locations for Louisa County voters.

Accordingly, please be sure to note on our calendar that Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 will serve as an Asynchronous Learning Day for Louisa County Public Schools. Wednesday, March 6th will be a regular school day.

This change is reflected on our online division calendar, which you can access on our division website at lcps.k12.va.us, as well as on our TeamLCPS mobile app. I also recommend opening the link below and printing out the latest edition of our 2023-2024 LCPS Calendar:

Again, Happy New Year, Bobcat families! Thank you for all of your support of our school and community, always, and I am looking forward to starting the second semester strong!
