Good Sunday evening Bobcat Nation.  This is your principal, Shaun Woody.  I hope you all have enjoyed a fun-filled day in the snow with your family.  I am calling tonight with a preview for the week of February 1st.

First, LCPS will be closed on Monday, February 1st, and there will be no school for ALL students, both Blended and Virtual. Families, this is Instructional Code A, which means no schoolwork is required to be completed, and any previously scheduled due dates for this day have been moved to the next day school is in session.

I would like to thank all of our Blended families for your support and positivity over the past two weeks, as our school division moved to the temporary transition period of fully remote learning.  Teachers have communicated with our students/parents to ensure that all students have progressed on their “Student Learning Resources”, which will be graded as students return to the building.  I encourage all students (Virtual Academy/Blended) and parents to continue to be in contact with teachers concerning academic progress throughout the second semester grading period.

Throughout the month of February, we celebrate Black History Month.  During this time, Bobcat Nation will incorporate lessons and activities into the instructional day to recognize and honor the accomplishments and achievements of African-Americans throughout history.

Bobcat Nation, get ready! Our new American Heart Challenge is starting up again and we need all hands on deck as we promote healthy hearts and habits! If we can get 50% of our students to sign up, we can earn up to $500 in new physical education equipment for our school!  To get registered, it’s easy! Just head to our school website and click on the American Heart Challenge link on the home page. And do not forget students, by participating, you can earn thank you gifts and prizes! So remember, take a moment today to register by visiting our school website!

As students return to the building this week, we encourage students to return any completed library books.  Also, Virtual Academy students may check out books by visiting the LCMS Library Webpage (https://louisacountymslibrary.weebly.com/).  Library book pick-up is available every Wednesday from 7:45am to 3:00pm, or you may make other arrangements (including pick-up day and time) by emailing our school librarian Mrs. Baughman ([email protected]).  Need a book right away?  Check out our audiobooks available on the library webpage.

I also want to alert our students/parents of an update to our division calendar. February 15th was originally scheduled as a Staff Development Day. The date will now serve as a regular instructional day for all students, as Team A students will report to the building. This revision was made in an effort to provide our students with as much instructional time as possible within our school buildings.

Additionally, interim reports for Team A students will be sent home on Thursday, February 11th.  For our Virtual Academy students, interim reports will be mailed home on February 11th.  Finally, interim reports for Team B students will be sent home on Friday, February 12th.

Excelling together, we will.  I thank you for your continued support and cooperation. If we can assist in any way, please contact us at (540) 894-5457.  Have a great night!
