Principal Update: August 3, 2023

Following is a transcript of the email/phone call to parents on August 3, 2023.
Good evening, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,
This is your principal, Amanda Harper. The start of the school year is fast approaching!
We look forward to welcoming all our Bobcats in grades 6, 7, and 8 at Open House tomorrow, Friday, August 4th, from 3:30 to 7:00. Bobcat gear will be available to purchase near the LCHS stadium! If you did not receive your child’s schedule in the mail, you can pick it up in the gym during Open House.
As referenced in previous communications from our LCPS Superintendent, Mr. Straley, there is a new online process that will allow parents/guardians to complete the back-to-school forms online! Each student’s primary contact should have now received an email with a custom registration code for their child or children. Click on the link and create your account, which shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. Once you’re logged into your newly created account, the process is simple and straightforward. All of our usual documents and forms are available in electronic form, and you can click your way through the process in a matter of minutes.
Please try to complete online registration before you attend Open House. Although there will be an option to register once you are here, getting it done beforehand will save you time. If you need any assistance, you can reach the LCPS Technology Help Desk by calling 540-894-4373 or by emailing [email protected].
Tdap, HPV, and Meningococcal Vaccines for 7th Grade Students
The following are the immunization requirements for rising seventh-grade students.
-A booster dose of TDAP vaccine.
-Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). The first dose shall be administered prior to entry to the seventh grade at 11 years or older.
-Two doses of properly spaced human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines for males and females. The first dose shall be administered before the child enters the seventh grade. (A parent or guardian has the right to decide if a child receives the HPV vaccine.)
If your child will be in seventh grade this year, please review the requirements and consult with your child’s physician regarding immunizations. Documentation of immunizations is necessary, and proof must be received before enrollment in school in August 2023. The student will not be allowed to attend school if the student’s immunization record does not include the above requirements. Please fax or drop off immunization records to Nurse Joy Smith. Documentation should include the student’s full legal name and date of birth.
School Supplies
Per the standard yearly process at Louisa County Middle School, teachers will provide students with a list of recommended school supplies during Open House and the first week of school. For the start of the school year, students are asked to bring basic school supplies with them, such as loose-leaf paper (college-ruled), spiral notebooks, pencils, and a water bottle.
Additionally, with the installation of weapons detectors at our school, we also would like to provide you with a few updates that will help guide you as you make purchases in the near future:
- All three-ring binders should be 1.5 inches or less.
- When possible, please use plastic water bottles. If you do purchase metal water bottles, please opt for small/medium-sized bottles.
- Please avoid purchasing wheeled, rolling backpacks if possible.
- Please do not purchase adult-sized scissors. Instead, opt for blunt, small/medium-sized scissors.
It is recommended that students purchase a combination lock to secure their belongings in their physical education locker. Students will be offered a hallway locker with a built-in combination lock in the first full week of school.
Please review our LCMS Back to School Letter that was mailed with schedules for more information for the beginning of the school year.
If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please call our office at (540) 894-5457. We look forward to welcoming you to LCMS and kicking off a great school year!
