8th graders will take the Reading SOL this Thursday, May 2nd. We wish our students the best as they take this test!
We ask for your support in ensuring your child is getting good rest, is coming to school prepared and ready to learn, and is continuing to work hard. The end-of-year SOL tests are an opportunity for students to show what they know and demonstrate readiness for the next grade level. Please discuss with your child the importance of putting forth their best effort!

Also, please ensure your student brings their fully charged Chromebook to school each day, especially on SOL testing days. Having a designated place at home to set the backpack and charge the Chromebook each evening can help ensure a smooth morning as they will be ready to grab and go! If a student has lost their Chromebook charger, the replacement cost is $35, and students may purchase a replacement from the Technology Assistance Center in the library.
Course Requests in PowerSchool: Override Requests Due by May 10th
LCMS uses an online process for student course requests for the upcoming academic year. Based on recommendations from their current teachers, students can see their course recommendations available for next year in all subject areas. We encourage all students and parents/guardians to reach out to the child’s current teachers or the school counseling department if you have any questions about the course selections for next year. In the event you or your child disagree with the current recommendations in PowerSchool, you may fill out a
course override request form. This form is available to submit on our website, or you may request a paper copy from the main office. Schedule changes and override requests MUST be submitted to the school by May 10th. Any requests made after May 10th may not be considered. Additionally, you will see the elective selections your child has indicated as their top choices. (You will see more courses listed than your child will actually take.) Your child will receive their 2024-2025 class schedule in late July with their actual course enrollments. Parents and guardians are able to view their student’s course requests for next year through the Parent Portal in PowerSchool. If you cannot access the Parent Portal, please call the LCMS main office for assistance.
Attendance Matters Through the Last Day of School!
This is the time of year that we enjoy engaging and collaborative projects, fun activities, and end-of-year festivities! Remember that school attendance matters through the last day of school! As always, students should stay home when they are sick but should attend school when possible. Students who have 17 or more absences in a given year, whether they are excused or unexcused absences, are considered chronically absent and are subject to being retained. I hope to see all of our Bobcats at school each day between now and the last day of school, which will be Thursday, May 23rd. Also, remember that we will dismiss at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23rd.
Maintaining High Expectations for Success!
It is also important that students continue to meet the highest expectations of conduct while we enjoy the end of school year festivities, including being respectful, having general good behavior and Bobcat citizenship, keeping hands, feet, and all other objects to oneself, and abiding by the school dress code and electronic device policies. Please encourage your child to end the school year positively by making good choices and thinking before they speak and act.
Mental Health Awareness Walk: Friday, May 10th
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the LCHS/LCMS Sources of Strength Clubs invite students to the first Mental Health Awareness Walk on the track at The Jungle on Friday, May 10th. Each participant will pay a $2 donation to receive a Brag Tag, and all proceeds will go towards funding campaigns and activities of the Sources of Strength clubs. Showing the Brag Tag will release students from class to walk around the track twice and be able to visit booths and activities together to learn more about mental health awareness. All students are required to have a signed
permission form from parents/guardians in order to participate. Brag Tags will be sold during lunches on May 6th-9th (cash only). Signed permission slips must be submitted when Brag Tags are purchased or be turned into the main office by the end of the school day on May 9th.
