LCMS Principal Weekly Update for April 2, 2023
Posted on 04/02/2023
Weekly Update graphicGood evening, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,

Monday, April 3rd will be an A day.

8th grade students will take the SOL reading pilot test on Monday, April 3rd. We will have an alternate bell schedule and lunch shift times will be adjusted slightly. Students will report to fourth period when they arrive to school on Monday. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is developing a new assessment item type for the grade 8 SOL reading test to support the focus on integrating reading and writing instruction to build student literacy.

Our Rally 4 Kindness will take place on Tuesday, April 4th in The Jungle at Louisa County High School, and lunch shift times will be adjusted. Every student and staff member at LCPS will be coming together for this rally as we continue to promote kindness at Louisa County Public Schools. Our Rally 4 Kindness will feature games, music, prizes, secret guests, and a whole lot more! It’s going to be a LOT of fun!

Students need to wear the current LCPS kindness shirt to the Rally 4 Kindness on Tuesday! It is a wonderful demonstration of unity as one team! If a student has joined us at LCMS since the fall, their fourth period teacher will have a shirt to give them! Also, if a student abolutely cannot find their current LCPS kindness shirt, their fourth period teacher will give them one. However, students should please try to wear the current LCPS Kindness shirt to school on Tuesday! The shirt is the ticket into the Rally 4 Kindness!

Friday, April 7th is a TeamLCPS Green and Gold Day! Let’s show our TeamLCPS Spirit!

I hope that all of our Bobcats have a restful and rejuvenating Spring Break Monday, April 10th through Friday, April 14th!

On Friday, April 21st, we will have a dance from 6:00 to 8:30 for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students as a way of welcoming our future Bobcats!

Looking ahead, please mark your calendar for the end of year SOL tests:
Thursday, April 27 - Civics SOL (8th grade)
Tuesday, May 2 - Reading SOL (6th, 7th, and 8th grades)
Thursday, May 4 - Science SOL (8th grade)
Tuesday, May 9 - Math (6th, 7th, and 8th grades)

Please review the LCPS Attendance Newsletter for April. As always, students should stay home when they are sick but should attend school when possible. Students who have 17 or more absences in a given year, whether they are excused or unexcused absences, are considered chronically absent and are subject to being retained. Please review your child’s current number of absences in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Send in or email absence notes to Mrs. Filer at LCMS if absences can be excused. Her email address is [email protected]. Students may need to attend after-school study hall sessions to reduce total absences. We hope to see our Bobcats at school each day ready to learn for the remainder of the school year.

Thank you, as always, for all of your support! If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please call our office at (540) 894-5457.
