Good Sunday evening Bobcat Nation.  This is your principal, Shaun Woody.  I hope everyone has enjoyed a great weekend with family.  I am calling tonight with a preview for the week of August 23rd.

With safety being our top priority at TeamLCPS, I ask that students continue to perform self-screenings each morning before coming to school.  If your child is sick, feeling sick, or has been around someone who has been sick, it is best for them to stay at home.  We must continue to work together to ensure the safety of all.

If your child has not already done so, please ensure that all paperwork that was given to students on August 11th is returned as soon as possible.  Without signed paperwork, students are not able to take their Chromebooks home to work on class assignments.  Also, as students return to the building each day, please ensure that your child’s Chromebook is fully charged.

This year, the Virginia Department of Education is requiring schools to administer Reading and Math Growth Assessments to students in grades 3 - 8, at the beginning of the school year.  The Fall Growth Assessments will provide us with important data on where our students are currently performing in order for us to provide each student with differentiated instruction to meet their individual needs.  The Fall Growth Assessments will also be an opportunity for our students to set a baseline level of achievement that will be used to measure their growth and progress when compared to their Spring SOL test score.

Louisa County Middle School will administer these assessments to face-to-face students on Tuesday, August 31st (Reading) and Thursday, September 2nd (Math) beginning at the start of the school day each morning.

For our Virtual Academy students, we will administer these assessments on Wednesday, September 1st (Reading), and Friday, September 3rd (Math) from 9:00am - 11:30am. Growth assessment testing for Virtual Academy students will take place in the metal gym, which is located behind the middle school.  Also, we recognize that some students may need to have bus transportation in order to be able to participate.  We will therefore need to have accurate information regarding student transportation needs as soon as possible.  Please complete this Google Form (https://forms.gle/FFYC7LjwCDmacyA68) no later than Tuesday, August 24th, in order to indicate if your child will or will not require bus transportation.

For Virtual academy testing, all proper disinfecting and social distancing measures are in place to ensure that a safe environment is provided for students.  Students will need to bring fully charged Chromebooks (those that were provided by LCPS).  Students will be expected to conduct personal health screenings before reporting to LCMS, and must also comply with mitigation strategies when they arrive and during testing (wearing masks, maintaining 3-6 feet of distance from others at all possible times, etc.). Please review these expectations with your child before arriving.

For further details on Growth Assessment testing, please refer to the attached letter or the LCMS website.  If you have any questions or have needs that go beyond those included in this letter, please contact Amanda Harper, Assistant Principal and School Testing Coordinator, at [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Each year, the LCPS FFA hosts a Fall Plant Sale and that time has arrived once again!  Please consider making a purchase and supporting our awesome FFA students and staff!  To place an order, please click here.

Excelling together, we are Bobcat Nation!.  I thank you for your support and cooperation. If we can assist in any way, please contact us at (540) 894-5457.  Have a great night!
