LCMS Principal Weekly Update for Aug. 20, 2023
Posted on 08/20/2023
Weekly Update GraphicGood evening, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,

Monday, August 21st will be an A Day. This Friday, August 25th is a TeamLCPS Green and Gold Day, so we are excited to show our school spirit by wearing green and gold!

We will begin using weapons detectors upon arrival tomorrow, Monday, August 21st. It is important that students take their Chromebooks or any other large devices out of their bags and have them in their hands prior to entering the building.
Here are some reminders for other items:
- All three-ring binders should be 1.5 inches or less and placed in alternating directions in backpacks.
- When possible, please use plastic water bottles. If you do purchase metal water bottles, please opt for small/medium-sized bottles.
- Please avoid purchasing wheeled, rolling backpacks if possible.
- Please do not purchase adult-sized scissors. Instead, opt for blunt, small/medium-sized scissors.

We will work together with patience to ensure a smooth process while maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment!

Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Math courses will take the SOL Math Growth Assessment on Tuesday, August 22nd. We will have an adjusted bell schedule on Tuesday to have a testing block in the morning. Students will go to their fourth period class upon arrival.

Students need to bring their charged Chromebook to school every day, and especially on Tuesday since it is an SOL Growth Assessment testing day! Parents and families, please support your child in establishing a routine for charging the device each night and ensuring that it is in their backpack each morning.

Looking ahead, we will have our first after school dance of the school year on Friday, September 1st until 5:30 for our Bobcats in grades 6, 7, and 8. Permission forms will be distributed next week and must be turned in by Thursday, August 31st. Registrations will not be accepted on the day of the dance. The $10 fee will include admission to the dance and one student admission to the LCHS Varsity home football game against Courtland in the Jungle! Kickoff for the game will be at 7:30 and gates will open at 6:00. Parents/guardians will pick up students from the dance at 5:30 at the cafeteria entrance of LCMS, which is accessed in the side parking lot. Parking is limited in the side lot. You should park in the front lot and walk around to the side entrance, especially if you are staying for the football game. We are excited to have some social time with our Bobcats, followed by cheering on our Lions in the Jungle!

We will have an Asynchronous Learning Day on Wednesday, September 13th. LCMS Bobcat students and staff will be participating in community service activities as a way to give back to our supportive community. We will be volunteering at Louisa County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, the Louisa County Resource Council, Spring Oak Senior Living, and LCPS Food Service. This is an excellent opportunity for students to be involved in a service project that benefits our community. Be on the lookout soon for a signup form for community service opportunities!

The LCMS Parent Advisory Council is an important component of our success, where school-related concerns are communicated to the principal. Meetings usually consist of 7 commitments a year, as we work together to define and examine relevant issues within the school environment. The first meeting will occur on September 14th from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the LCMS Forum. Follow-up meetings are scheduled for October 12th, November 16th, January 11th, February 8th, and March 7th. Please contact me if you are interested in serving on the LCMS Parent Advisory Council.
