Principal Weekly Update graphicGood evening, LCMS Bobcat Parents and Families,

Monday, October 30th will be an A Day.

Thank you to all of our Bobcats and families who attended the LCMS Student Showcase! It was invigorating to open our school doors and invite our Bobcat families to see a glimpse of the wonderful learning experiences that take place in our school each day! We will be drawing for the prizes live over the morning announcements on Monday morning!

As we progress through the school year, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns, or just to connect with them to hear about your child’s continued growth. You can monitor your child’s academic progress by using the online PowerSchool Parent Portal where you are able to see the detailed grade book for each class, as well as attendance and tardy information. Please call our office if you need assistance with logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Working together, we can ensure your child’s growth and success!

This is also a great time of year to check in with your child and make sure they have a good supply of pencils, paper, and other basic supplies.

We will have clubs at the end of the day on Monday, October 30th! Please avoid early pickups after 2:30 that day if possible.

For Tuesday, October 31st, students and staff are invited to unite in a school-wide theme in the spirit of fun -- 1,001 Dalmatians: Spots Rule the School! Bobcats can wear white clothing adorned with black spots and let their creativity shine as they bring their favorite puppy characters to life! Each dalmatian can have its own unique personality, just like in the book and movie.
*Students who requested a dalmatian headband will receive it in homeroom class on Monday, October 30th.
(Students may dress up on Tuesday, October 31st, as long as dress code guidelines are followed and there are no Halloween masks.)

The third exploratory rotation (E3) begins for sixth grade students on Thursday, November 2nd. The exploratory wheel is a rotation of six classes that meet for six weeks each. Students can check out their PowerSchool Student Portal to see which class they have next!

Absences add up! Missing just two days each month means a child misses 10% of the school year. As always, students should stay home when they are sick, but should attend school when possible. Students who have 17 or more absences in a given year, whether they are excused or unexcused absences, are considered chronically absent and are subject to being retained. Students may need to attend after school sessions to reduce total absences. We hope to see our Bobcats at school each day ready to learn!

Creating routines can help improve your child's attendance:

Evening Tips:
-Lay out clothes, bookbags, and the charged Chromebook the night before school
-Use open-ended questions to talk to your child about their day

Morning Tips:
-Have easy "grab and go" breakfast options for those rushed mornings
(granola bars/fruit), and remember that breakfast & lunch are free of charge for all TeamLCPS students!
-Have a backup plan if your child misses the bus
-Keep all items for school in one area

Looking ahead, Bobcats can look forward to a fun incentive to celebrate perfect attendance in the month of November!

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 5th and we will turn our clocks back one hour. Monday, November 6th is a Staff Development Day and Tuesday, November 7th is Election Day and there will be no school for students.

Bobcats can look forward to our next after school dance on Friday, November 10th! Also on Friday, November 10th, we will wear red, white, and blue in honor of Veterans Day.

If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please call our office at (540) 894-5457.
